Britain’s Best Christmas Markets

Christmas in England is something everyone should experience, its a time full of tradition and fun festivities where family and friends come together to enjoy themselves. A big part of Christmas is visiting the cities Christmas markets to enjoy food and drink, listen to live music and buy handmade gifts. If you are currently teaching in the UK, here are our top Christmas market picks in Britain for you to visit.

Birmingham

When: November 12th – December 22nd

The Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas market and craft fair is the largest German market held outside of Germany and Austria and it’s running for its 11th year! Head to Victoria Square and enjoy a range of German food and drink from mulled wine and German beer to meat and pastries, this market has it all! If you’re looking for a special Christmas present, they have a great range of handmade gifts to suit all of your shopping needs!

Manchester

When: November 14th – December 21st

There are several Christmas markets across Manchester’s city centre, all of which are equally incredible. These markets offer everything from a German-style market, to an arts and craft market and a world Christmas market providing hours of shopping as well as delicious food to try from around the world.

Edinburgh

When: November 20th – January 4th

If you’re planning a trip up to Scotland for the festive season, make sure you stop by at Edinburgh’s Christmas markets. They have everything from the traditional German Christmas market, as well as a Scottish market running all the way through the Christmas period until January 4th. There is also plenty of activities for children and Christmas carol singers to make you feel extra festive!

London

When: November 20th – January 6th

London is truly magical at Christmas! Take your pick from Christmas markets throughout the Capital, with London hosting the extravagant Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park featuring an ice rink, a circus and an observation wheel. Alternatively, head to the Southbank Centre markets for more of a traditional Christmas market experience with its wooden chalet stalls. Both of these markets run through until January so head down and have fun with friends and family all season long.

Leeds

November 13th – December 20th

The Christkindelmarkt in Leeds is one of the best Christmas markets to visit in the north of England. Enjoy some of the wide range of delicacies the market has to offer whilst listening to live music from a Bavarian band.
